REMEMBER
If you keep your wick heater topped up with Tozane fuel (i.e. you do not let it run dry), you will not need to replace the wick in the heater. If you let the heater run dry, the wick will burn out.
Once the wick is burnt out, it will become black and hard. It will not ignite properly and it may produce smoke. In some instances, the wick will become so hard and distorted that it will prevent the wheel mechanism at the front from turning.
This can all be avoided by simply keeping your heater topped up with Tozane.
FAQs
Power max: 2.4KW
Suitable room size: 8-15 m³
Consumption : 0.25 litres/hr.
Fuel tank capacity: 3.4L
If you keep your heater filled with fuel and don’t let it run out, theoretically, you should never need to change the wick. If however you’ve burned it out, you can see how to replace a wick for the Glow Wick 240 heater here:
(Just remember to let your wick soak for ≈5 hours before lighting the heater, so that it’s fully saturated in fuel and so that your wick doesn’t burn up.)
Paraffin heaters are far more economical to run. They are more costly upfront, but over a year they cost considerably less than an electric fan heater or bar heater to operate.
The Glow Wick 240 heater is also super simple to use. If you use a light switch you can use the 240.
Most of our heaters have anti-topple features to prevent accidents. Some have in built alarms also. However, our Wick Heaters can pose a risk of burning as they are hot to the touch.
The Inverter heater is our safest option as it has a cool casing, a child-lock and a carbon monoxide alarm too.
We do not recommend using a heater in an unvented area. Carbon Monoxide is created in minuscule amounts by these heaters as they burn fuel. This generally isn’t an issue for large, able-bodied people – and especially if the room is vented. However, for very young children, it is not recommended that fuel-burning heaters of any sort are used in their room – and again, especially if this room is unvented.
These heaters use ROLF fuel. ROLF stands for ‘Reduce Odour Liquid Fuel’. While they are considerably less odourous than older paraffin fuels (like say, the ones that your granny would have used), but they do carry an odour. Most people consider this to be a minor odour, but some people are more susceptible to it than others. We recommend that you visit our store to see/smell a working heater for yourself before you purchase if you are unsure about this.
Only use top quality, liquid combustibles with the aromatics removed, which are free from impurities in our heaters. They should have max 1% of aromatics and a flash point above 61°. Please see our fuel instructions here.
Put simply, we recommend using Tozane.
Tozane
Reduced Odour Liquid Fuel
Virtually no smell, which can be used in all paraffin appliances
Tozane significantly improves the burning characteristics with virtually no odour or taint.
All of our heaters will run on this Tozane
If you have used the wrong fuel in your heater, it is not returnable. C1 Grade Paraffin is the only acceptable oil for all our heaters. We strongly recommend that you use Tozane.
As stated on our Fuel Products Page, and on our Fuel Instructions guide, problems resulting from using the wrong fuel are not covered by our guarantee. We also outline what types of fuel can be used in these heaters in these guides, as well as our blog post on fuels.
You cannot use kerosene in this heater.
Paraffin is a distilled version on Kerosene. It’s had the impurities and plastics taken out, meaning that it’s made for indoor use and considerably easier on the lungs. It produces no ‘soot’ unlike it’s Kerosene counterparts, so you won’t notice any ‘blackening’ or Tar build up on your paraffin heater. These build-ups can also lead to problems with the Heater turning on or off. So, you can see why we only supply Tozane Fuel.
Kerosene is not safe to breathe in and it will damage your heater also.
So while there are cheaper oils and fuels available for Oil Heaters in Ireland, none are as safe for human inhalation or lifespan of the heater than Tozane.
If you have put oil into the paraffin heater and then change your mind about it, it is not returnable. Opened heaters which are not faulty are non-returnable.
The Cooling-off period does not apply in this instance. This is in line with CCPC guidelines that states there is an exception to the cooling-off period for “items that have been unsealed or which cannot be returned for hygiene reasons, for example, underwear, cosmetics, earrings”
Wick Usage
The first time you use a wick, let it absorb liquid combustible fuel for mobile heater for up to 5 hours.
Only use liquid combustible fuel for mobile heater with the aromatics removed, with a flashpoint above 61° and free from any impurities, in order to ensure that your wick lasts for a long time.
If you find that the wick is abnormally hard, if it is blocked or if it is burning abnormally, have it replaced by a qualified specialist, for example, the supplier of your heater.
Note: As the wick and replacement of the wick are not covered by the guarantee, follow the instructions for use, in order to obtain optimal performance from your wick.
