Guaranteed Irish House Month: Support local with you new shed!

February is Guaranteed Irish House month. With that in mind, today we’re going to look at ways in which you can add to your garden shed while supporting local businesses and the local economy. Guaranteed Irish is a seal of quality in and of itself, so you can be sure that you’re in good hands with the companies below. While a large number of Guaranteed Irish companies deal mostly with Commercial customers, we’ve found a range of products that are available to all across the board.

Wooden Sheds

Dosco

If you’ve opted for a non-pressure treated shed, you’ll need to paint or varnish it every year. Dosco is a Cork-based manufacturing company with a huge range of brushes and painting materials, to name just a fraction of what they do. If you’re looking to support Irish and get high quality materials to help you keep your wooden shed in top-nick, look no further.

Topline

Speaking of treating your shed, check out Topline’s range of painting & decorating materials. They’re a range of wood preservers – and some come with a colour tint! Want a blue, green, pink or dazzling yellow shed? Now you can with Topline!

Kilsaran

Wooden Sheds go up on blocks. Why not ensure quality and support local by ensuring that you get Kilsaran blocks? They’re the leading Irish manufacturer of concrete products and you can see where in your area their products are available. Also, we’ll look more at steel sheds below, but consider making sure that your concrete base is made with Kilsaran products too!

Ecocel

Do you need to insulate your wooden shed? How about doing so with recycled newspaper? No, not yourself, the guys at Ecocel can come and professionally finish your insulation needs! A growing number of people are transforming our larger sheds into working spaces. While a great idea, this is not what they are built for, so they’ll need some TLC to make them suitable. One way to keep yourself warm and to drastically reduce the chances of condensation forming is with good insulation. There are a few options out there for this, but none as clever or eco-friendly as this.

HomeValu

You’re not short on things to find at HomeValu, but some things that I found particularly handy were”

  • Hexagonal Wire (“chicken wire”): This is a great addition to a wooden shed. Generally, it’s preferred to leave one side exposed, to allow air to flow around and through. Chicken wire, when repeated over itself, can be a great way to keep rodents and other wildlife out from under your shed.
  • Emergency lighting: With the recent Storm Eowyn wreaking havoc across the island, the headlamps, working lamps and tealights are a great addition to any shed.
  • Stepping Stones A gorgeous addition to any shed, but especially a wooden one. Finish off the look by adding a stepping stone walkway to your garden shed.

DID Electrical

A bit of a personal one here. If you’ve got say, the Potting Shed, and you’re out on a Sunday afternoon, preparing the garden for the Summer ahead, some audio accompaniment is always welcome. Whether it’s the Rugby on Radio 1, the football on Newstalk or even just some music on our beloved Radio Nova (where you’ll hear our ads all year long!), it’s a great way to while away the day. DID Electical has some great audio options here. My choice, the Jabra Connect 4. You can listen to music, use it as a speaker when you’re on calls and it has a great battery life too!

Steel Sheds

Kingspan

We’ve been champions of Kingspan for years. Our 2021 Blog Post Insulating a steel shed” noted that Kingspan is “probably the most thorough way to get it done”. It still is. One of our sheds in the showroom is lined entirely with Kingspan. It works a wonder, it couldn’t be easier to install and in using it, you’re supporting the local economy.

Clonmel Covers

If your shed is used as part of a business, keeping it secure is essential. If your shed is built in an isolated and wind-prone location, you should consider a wind-breaker to keep your shed and its contents secure. Clonmel Covers’ WindBreakers may be an ideal solution. They reduce wind by up to 75%, and they’re made to fit. As it says on their website, we don’t just provide covers, we provide solutions.

Robus

Robus are based in Dublin 12 and they offer a huge range of lights and lighting accessories. The ones that may be of particular interest are the solar powered SOL range. With screw holes, these can be mounted on the outside of a shed to provide downlight to the exterior, or across the garden walls to brighten the place up in the evening.

Elephant Storage

If you need to get an shed knocked down quickly, you may be stuck for storage space. During the Summer months here, lead times on steel sheds can be up to 6 weeks. That’s a long time to leave your goods out in the rain or clogging up the home. Elephant Storage offers short and long term storage for your goods, which makes it ideal for scenarios like this.
